I’ve always loved road trips, but never more than after moving to Japan where all highways require a toll. The drive from California to Colorado would run some $800 in Japanese tolls. So, on many of my trips to the magnificent American west, I drive. I’m doing so on this trip, too.
I left L.A. yesterday. As you read this, I’m in either Utah or Colorado, on my way home to the Rocky Mountains, which are never far from my heart. What a lucky boy I was to grow up in this meadow:
Why did I ever leave? To see the world. I’m glad I did, too, but I’ve never doubted that one day I’d return. Tonight, I’ll sleep in the Rockies.
