Seeking Nuclear Experts

We’re getting conflicting information here in the Tokyo area. Some scientists are saying there’s little risk of widespread radiation from the reactor meltdown emergency; others say to get out while we can because this could get to the worst case in a hurry, being that we’re in uncharted territory.

Internet access is spotty amid rolling blackouts. Can people jump in here to help with any contacts they have who can shed some light on the risks? One tip I have is Ken Begeron at Scientific American, but I can’t find an email address for him and don’t have time to keep looking. Please put whomever you know or can find in touch with me ASAP, and I’ll pass the information along via this site to other expats in Japan and the American public. More light on the risks would be a great comfort.

Thank you,
Jason Kelly

Jason, I have posted a link to your question on the facebook wall for “KadenaAirBase”. Feel free to “friend” them to see the discussion. How many miles are you from a reactor? My husband is a former Nuc. Med. Tech. I will ask him once I know how close you are. Sandyvan33@hotmail.com
